The platform

A platform you can check.

ZERO is the outdoor-unit brand name on active AHRI Certificates of Product Ratings, independently rated to AHRI Standard 210/240-2024 and listed for sale in the USA and Canada. Those certificates carry reference numbers anyone can look up in the AHRI directory.

Zero HVAC Direct supplies the Z-Pro line to licensed contractors across New England as a trade-only, NEHPA-registered distributor, with technical documentation published for contractors to verify.

Cold-climate engineering

Enhanced vapor injection.

Enhanced vapor injection is what separates a cold-climate heat pump from a standard one. A standard compressor moves refrigerant in a single stage — efficient in mild weather, but the compression ratio it works against climbs as outdoor temperature falls.

EVI adds an economizer and a second expansion valve, and injects additional refrigerant vapor into the compressor part-way through compression. The compressor keeps moving mass at temperatures where a single-stage machine is losing ground.

On Z-Pro equipment that means full nameplate heating output down to −13°F, with the operating range extending to −22°F (−30°C).

Standard cycle

One compression stage. As outdoor temperature falls, the compression ratio the machine has to work against rises.

An economizer and a secondary expansion valve feed additional refrigerant vapor into the compressor mid-cycle, through a dedicated injection port.
